. 34. Participation in Institutional Social Responsibility & Extension Activities : Yes

· Teachers Training for teaching English language

35 . SWOC analysis of the department and Future plans:

Ø Strengths:

· The growing research culture is strength and all faculties of the department are involved in the research activities.

· Most of the faculty is involved in various curricular and extra curricular activities of the college and universities which enables us to know our students better and help them develop their personalities. Our direct connection with YCMOU and IGNOU helps us to develop and enlarge our own perspective regarding the curricula of our own university.

Ø Weakness:

· The students from rural area are inherently weak in English. This results in creating a phobia about the language in their mind.

Ø Opportunities:

· As a global language and language of knowledge English has become the language of power. This is an opportunity for the department to run interdisciplinary courses in English. The department is running some such courses and planning to offer more.

Ø Challenges:

· Due to students’ growing preferences to competitive examinations there is less number of students inclined to study English literature.

· At the same time the growing number of students at compulsory level creates a challenge to manage the class physically and academically.

Ø Future plan:

  • Start Certificate Course in Spanish
  • Collaborate with British Council for Teacher Training
  • Start Diploma Program in Film Studies
  • Start M. A. in Linguistics
