33 . Teaching methods adopted to improve student learning:

· Study Tours and Outreach Programmes

· Samaj Jagruti Manch, Bal Sanskar Kendra, the community oriented activities to students

· Using Films and documentaries as a pedagogical tool (we have about 200 documentaries and Films)

· Group discussions and debates (Vimarsha Gat)

· Research Projects to the students

  • PPT presentations

· Computer based activities

· Interactive learning with other students (Chikitsa Setup Programme)

· Small research project activity

  • Open book tests

34 . Participation in Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) and Extension activities:

· AIDS awareness work with Yash Foundation and Mahindra and Mahindra

· Visits and interactive sessions with Central Jail, Adhaar Ashram, etc.

· Samaj Jagruti Manch, Bal Sanskar Kendra, the community oriented activities to students

· Visits and surveys in villages like Manoli, Alore, Drought Prone villages

  • Outreach Programme

· Social Justice Rally, AIDs Rally etc.

35 . SWOC analysis of the department and Future plans:

Ø Strength

· Good collection of educational resources viz. Films, documentaries and ebooks

· Experience and exercise based teaching-learning

Ø Weakness

· Its syllabus does not contain outreach exercises officially.

· There is still less awareness of the subject among students especially from rural tribal background.

Ø Opportunities

· It has potential to be a Research Centre in nearest future.

· Try to be specialized in “Community Studies and Social Policies”

Ø Challenges

· Social sciences are still undermined by the society. Brilliant students from Arts Faculty prefer English, Science subjects or Psychology.

· Despite efforts of the Board of Studies, Particles and outreach activities are not included in to the core curriculum of sociology.

Ø Future plan

· To organize a National level seminar/conference.

· To start Research Centre.

· To increase collaborated activities with other departments and with outside civil society organizations.

· To strengthen Chikitsa Setu with other collage Sociology students
